Hello!
This is a thread to discuss global trends and how they relate to culture. Some examples are changes in diet related to globalization. This has been occurring for centuries. According the World Health Organization, Diabetes is in the top ten causes for death worldwide (2018). Changes in diet can be directly linked to globalization. Another global trend that has a cultural root is the anti-vaxx movement. Diseases once though eradicated are now springing up. This stems from the “all natural/organic” culture that started gaining a following in the early 2000s.
What trend have you heard about? What do you think we can do to promote positive trends and deter the negative ones?

What about what is happening in other countries? Look at workers in countries like China. I think globalization has really improved their health. Factory work used to be really bad there and they had horrible standards. I remember hearing stories of workers not being allowed to go to the bathroom all shift and being exposed to dangerous chemicals. I work in retail and sell stuff like Patagonia and Ice breaker clothing. They have shops in China but they have brought American values of health and safety with them. Their factories are up to our standards. I think this will change work in China because people always talk and so other factory workers are going to hear how much better it is. Hopefully this will mean better health in all factories.
The anti-vaccine movement is spread like wildfire on social media. It is crazy how many people think it is the best choice. I sometimes wonder if social media created this craze, I dont remember it being around before facebook. Some of the social media sites are blocking the content. Looks like instagram is not one of them. There have always been people with extreme views, but the internet has brought them all together. Check out this article from today
